Embodied energy measures the total energy used to make the materials used in a building. It comes down to how green these materials are and how much of them is used. Binishells use concrete, amongst the greenest construction materials available and use and waste very little of it. That brings our embodied energy to less than 50% of a traditional structure. Life cycle footprint is the measure of how green a building is over its life time (buildings last an average of 75 years). The single biggest factor here is the efficiency of the building skin, or envelope. Binishells have building envelopes that are so efficient they reduce energy use by as much as 75% or more over traditional construction. Furthermore other passive and active green building and design features may be integrated to make Binishells even more sustainable.
